In reply to your letter of the 16th. ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that in view of the opinion of the Secretary of State for the Colonies quoted in the enclosure no claim will be made by this Government for the maintenance of the prisoner Cheong Suk. I am, however, referring to the Secretary of State for the Colonies in regard to the decision recorded in the enclosure to your despatch which has never been communicated to this Government.
